About Smart Education

Why Smart Education?

More than merely preparing children to enter tomorrow’s job market, our holistic approach encourages the development of creative thought processes that make a well-rounded individual.

Often, families put too much of a focus on core subjects at the expense of the arts. This is detrimental to the child’s development, as it overlooks the potential that the arts can contribute. According to a number of respected academic studies, there are many reasons why learning art is so important for children, from boosting their creativity and imagination to sharpening their cognitive abilities, not to mention improving their overall happiness. These benefits will be seen throughout the stages of your child’s growth, so it is highly recommended to get them started early on in the arts.

Meet the Instructor

Tim Zhao is an expert in his field. Tim has graduated from Renmin University of China with a BA in Art Design where he studied historical Chinese architecture, design aesthetics and conducted field research at the Forbidden City in Beijing. Tim worked as an Artistic and Creative Director for top marketing agencies for many years.  At the age of 25 he was running the entire Asian branch of the Jack Morton Global Agency as their regional Creative Director. With such success, he then branched off and founded his own agency where he directed numerous large-scale projects for the top echelon of society in Beijing and across China in the high fashion and technology sectors. Tim brings his wide range of international experience and refined artistic perspective to the classroom. His heart and soul go into building a well-rounded, one-of-a-kind curriculum that ignites a passion for learning in all of his students.

Tim has been teaching creative and immersive art classes to K-12 students for the past four years in the D.C. metropolitan area. Smart Education Studios integrated the STEAM model – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. The classes range from artistic techniques and in depth studies of the arts to traditional chinese culture.  The curriculum will include professional guest speakers who are experts in their field.

Smart Education has had the good fortune of being able to nominate student’s artwork for the 2018 and 2019 National Art Education Association Awards (NAEA) and they have been awarded Certificates of Achievement.
